活(huo)性炭(tan)(tan)(tan)是(shi)一種經特(te)殊處(chu)理的炭(tan)(tan)(tan)，將有機原料（果殼、煤、木材等）在(zai)隔絕空氣(qi)的條件下加熱，以減少(shao)(shao)非(fei)碳成(cheng)(cheng)分(fen)（此(ci)過程(cheng)稱為炭(tan)(tan)(tan)化(hua)），然后與氣(qi)體反應，表面(mian)被侵(qin)蝕(shi)，產生微(wei)孔發達(da)的結構(gou) （此(ci)過程(cheng)稱為活(huo)化(hua)）。由于活(huo)化(hua)的過程(cheng)是(shi)一個微(wei)觀過程(cheng)，即(ji)大量的分(fen)子碳化(hua)物表面(mian)侵(qin)蝕(shi)是(shi)點(dian)狀(zhuang)侵(qin)蝕(shi) ，所以造成(cheng)(cheng)了活(huo)性炭(tan)(tan)(tan)表面(mian)具有無數細小(xiao)孔隙。活(huo)性炭(tan)(tan)(tan)表面(mian)的微(wei)孔直(zhi)徑大多在(zai)2～50nm之間，即(ji)使是(shi)少(shao)(shao)量的活(huo)性炭(tan)(tan)(tan)，也(ye)有巨(ju)大的表面(mian)積，每克活(huo)性炭(tan)(tan)(tan)的表面(mian)積為500~1500m2，活(huo)性炭(tan)(tan)(tan)的一切(qie)應用，幾乎(hu)都基(ji)于活(huo)性炭(tan)(tan)(tan)的這一特(te)點(dian)。
