活(huo)(huo)性(xing)(xing)(xing)炭(tan)(tan)是(shi)(shi)一(yi)種經特殊處(chu)理(li)的(de)(de)(de)炭(tan)(tan)，將有(you)機(ji)原(yuan)料(liao)（果(guo)殼、煤、木(mu)材等）在隔絕(jue)空氣的(de)(de)(de)條(tiao)件下加熱，以(yi)減少(shao)非(fei)碳(tan)成(cheng)(cheng)分(fen)（此過(guo)程(cheng)(cheng)稱(cheng)為炭(tan)(tan)化(hua)），然后與(yu)氣體反應，表(biao)(biao)面被侵蝕(shi)，產生微孔(kong)發達的(de)(de)(de)結構 （此過(guo)程(cheng)(cheng)稱(cheng)為活(huo)(huo)化(hua)）。由于(yu)活(huo)(huo)化(hua)的(de)(de)(de)過(guo)程(cheng)(cheng)是(shi)(shi)一(yi)個微觀過(guo)程(cheng)(cheng)，即(ji)大(da)量的(de)(de)(de)分(fen)子碳(tan)化(hua)物表(biao)(biao)面侵蝕(shi)是(shi)(shi)點狀侵蝕(shi) ，所以(yi)造(zao)成(cheng)(cheng)了活(huo)(huo)性(xing)(xing)(xing)炭(tan)(tan)表(biao)(biao)面具有(you)無數細(xi)小孔(kong)隙。活(huo)(huo)性(xing)(xing)(xing)炭(tan)(tan)表(biao)(biao)面的(de)(de)(de)微孔(kong)直徑大(da)多在2～50nm之間，即(ji)使(shi)是(shi)(shi)少(shao)量的(de)(de)(de)活(huo)(huo)性(xing)(xing)(xing)炭(tan)(tan)，也(ye)有(you)巨大(da)的(de)(de)(de)表(biao)(biao)面積，每克活(huo)(huo)性(xing)(xing)(xing)炭(tan)(tan)的(de)(de)(de)表(biao)(biao)面積為500~1500m2，活(huo)(huo)性(xing)(xing)(xing)炭(tan)(tan)的(de)(de)(de)一(yi)切應用，幾乎都基于(yu)活(huo)(huo)性(xing)(xing)(xing)炭(tan)(tan)的(de)(de)(de)這一(yi)特點。
