活(huo)(huo)(huo)性(xing)(xing)炭(tan)(tan)(tan)(tan)是(shi)一(yi)種(zhong)經特殊處理的(de)(de)(de)(de)炭(tan)(tan)(tan)(tan)，將有(you)機原料（果殼(ke)、煤、木(mu)材(cai)等）在隔絕空氣的(de)(de)(de)(de)條件下(xia)加熱，以(yi)減少(shao)非碳成分（此過(guo)程稱為(wei)炭(tan)(tan)(tan)(tan)化(hua)(hua)），然后與(yu)氣體反應，表(biao)(biao)面(mian)被侵蝕(shi)，產生(sheng)微(wei)孔發(fa)達的(de)(de)(de)(de)結構 （此過(guo)程稱為(wei)活(huo)(huo)(huo)化(hua)(hua)）。由于(yu)活(huo)(huo)(huo)化(hua)(hua)的(de)(de)(de)(de)過(guo)程是(shi)一(yi)個(ge)微(wei)觀過(guo)程，即大量的(de)(de)(de)(de)分子碳化(hua)(hua)物表(biao)(biao)面(mian)侵蝕(shi)是(shi)點狀侵蝕(shi) ，所(suo)以(yi)造成了活(huo)(huo)(huo)性(xing)(xing)炭(tan)(tan)(tan)(tan)表(biao)(biao)面(mian)具有(you)無(wu)數細小孔隙。活(huo)(huo)(huo)性(xing)(xing)炭(tan)(tan)(tan)(tan)表(biao)(biao)面(mian)的(de)(de)(de)(de)微(wei)孔直徑大多(duo)在2～50nm之間(jian)，即使(shi)是(shi)少(shao)量的(de)(de)(de)(de)活(huo)(huo)(huo)性(xing)(xing)炭(tan)(tan)(tan)(tan)，也有(you)巨(ju)大的(de)(de)(de)(de)表(biao)(biao)面(mian)積，每克活(huo)(huo)(huo)性(xing)(xing)炭(tan)(tan)(tan)(tan)的(de)(de)(de)(de)表(biao)(biao)面(mian)積為(wei)500~1500m2，活(huo)(huo)(huo)性(xing)(xing)炭(tan)(tan)(tan)(tan)的(de)(de)(de)(de)一(yi)切應用，幾乎都基于(yu)活(huo)(huo)(huo)性(xing)(xing)炭(tan)(tan)(tan)(tan)的(de)(de)(de)(de)這一(yi)特點。
